Biography: 

Ruiya received her BS degree from Ocean University of China in 2020, majoring in Food Science and Engineering. During her undergraduate experience, she joined Dr. Xue Zhao’s lab to perform a low-cost, less-waste, and time-efficient method to separate fucoidan and chondroitin sulfate in sea cucumbers. Ruiya received her MS degree from The Ohio State University in 2022, advised by Dr. Emmanuel Hatzakis, working on virgin coconut oil authentication using NMR based untargeted analysis along with chemometrics techniques. Afterward, she joined Dr. Devin Peterson’s lab in 2023 as a PhD student.

The non-academic Ruiya is an expert in nail art and an amateur in snowboarding. She also loves all kinds of warm-blooded animals from pets to farm animals and wildlife.
